General FAQs

What is the “Transaction Maximum Dollar Amount”?
This feature lets you set the maximum amount that you wish to spend for each transaction. The system automatically sets this as $20 but if you wish each transaction to be less, you can adjust it. Please note that your credit card availability will be checked for this amount for each parking transaction and will terminate when this amount is reached. Be careful not to set it too low for the area you intend to park. Example: If you set it for $2 but want to park for 3 hours downtown which is a $5 parking fee, your transaction will terminate too early and you may end up parked illegally.

What is the 35 cent transaction fee?
This fee is charged by Telepark (the service provider that processes payment through the system). 35 cents is an industry standard amount for this type of service per transaction. This fee is not paid to the City of Kamloops, only the standard parking rates are. The fee is applied to each complete start and stop transaction, not for both.

What if I forget to Stop my parking?
Telepark transactions will only run as long as the maximum time permitted in the parking zone. Example: Downtown On-street parking is 3 hours maximum per space and then you must move to another space. Telepark will automatically stop charging after 3 hours, but your vehicle would be parked in violation unless you had moved it. Telepark sends a notification by email, 15 minutes prior to the maximum time expiring to reduce the chance of being ticketed for parking too long in one spot.

How does Telepark know my license plate number?
With Telepark when you register your account, you enter the license plate number and the system will continue to use your license plate associated to your mobile phone number.

If you create an online profile, you can add additional license plates to your account however you must remember the order in which you have registered the vehicles to ensure you pay for the correct vehicle as the system will default to the first vehicle unless you select another.
